How To Use Limewire - Step 1 - Configure Limewire Settings
Welcome to the complete guide on how to use limewire! The first thing to do when you open limewire is to configure your settings. In the menu bar go to; Tools > Options.
Saving : Click on browse to select the folder where you want your completed downloads to be saved into. You can specify different folders for Audio, Documents, Images, Programs and Video.
Sharing : Select a folder on your computer which contains files that you’d like to share. I’d recommend using a folder with 100+ files as if you don’t you might get labelled as a FREELOADER and not get the maximum number of sources for downloading.
Tip - Use or create a folder which contains up to 1000 very small files (<100 kb) with obscure files names. The smaller the files the better because you don’t really want lots of people downloading from you as this will slow down your downloads. PLUS if you are in place where you pay for bandwidth your bill will be huge if you share a lot of large highly sought after files.
For this reason I also recommend unchecking the Share Finished Downloads check box.
Speed: Select your connection type. This is important as it will help you downloads go faster.
Important! Make sure you select Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities. You don’t want to waste your precious bandwidth helping other people to download faster (unless you really want to).
Tick Enable OOB Searching and continue.
Downloads: For Maximum Downloads I’d recommend selecting somewhere between 10-20. You can go higher if you have a super fast connection. Select Clear Completed Downloads. For Download Bandwidth the higher the better, just remember that if you are going to be using your computer while you are downloading that your system may run slower because of the memory
Uploads > Basic: Select Automatically Clear Completed Downloads. Set your upload bandwidth to ZERO and do not select Allow Partial Sharing.
> Slots: Select 2 for Uploads Per Person and Max Uploads Slots.

itunes > Sharing - DISABLE: I don’t recommend sharing your music files unless you are extremely nice. Sharing files will slow down your downloads and also use up your bandwidth and broadband limit.

Filters > Content Filters: Check the option to Enable Content Filters. This ensures you don’t get shown options which are copy protected. You don’t want to waste time and bandwidth downloading protected files.
> Junk: This one is a bit tricky as sometimes junk files can actually be quite good. I recommend that you select Show Junk at Bottom of Search Results and set the sensitivity to Relaxed. That way you still can see the junk files but they won’t interfere too much with your top rank files.
> Filter: Filter Keywords - Enter any words here which you don’t results displayed for in your search results. Filter Result Types - I’d recommend strongly that you select ALL of the options available here as this will reduce your risk of viruses and spyware.
> Hosts: Add banned IP addresses here to protect yourself from spammers. You can also add friends or trusted sources here too.
Advanced > Preferencing: Connection Preferencing - I recommend setting your Freeloader limit to no less than 20 and set the bar to Rarely. If other Limewire users don’t have more than 20 files to contribute to the system then you don’t want these guys siphoning off everyone else. Most people will think like this too, that’s why I told you to set your sharing file to contain no less than 100 files.
Firewall Config / Proxy: Don’t touch these settings unless you know what you’re doing!
System Startup: I don’t recommend that you check this option as you only want to run limewire when you are downloading. Running the program at startup will slow your system down and use up bandwidth and broadband.
